Licenciatus in Theologia

Overview

The aim of this two-year Canonical degree or Master’s in Fundamental Theology is to serve the Church, the society in which it is immersed and the University of Deusto in those specific fields that are most demanded.

In this regard, it is evident that, in the extremely difficult situation of today’s world, the faith-culture dialogue and interreligious dialogue are a significant challenge the Faculty of Theology of the University of Deusto cannot be oblivious to. Facing up to this challenge is one of the requirements that was recently made by the General Congregation 35 of the Society of Jesus as key to its Identity and Mission when it said that:

In an era of complex social, cultural and religious challenges, the Pope asks us to render faithful service to the Church. This fidelity demands serious and rigorous research in the field of theology and dialogue with the modern world, cultures and religions.” (General Congregation 35, decree 1, ‘With renewed fervor and zeal’ point 7).

Aims

  • Provide academic training and development of the competences required to obtain a Canonical degree in Theology/Master’s in Fundamental Theology.
  • Carry out research work on the religious dimension of cultural encounter.
